January Blog Challenge – Blended Backgrounds

Welcome to 2016, my friends! I’m super excited to be announcing the January Etc by Danyale blog challenge! Woot woot! I know that January is a big time for everyone to make resolutions that they may or may not keep. I’m not huge on making resolutions. I’m choosing this year to keep focus on what is important in my life. So that is our challenge for this month – focus. We are going to be focusing on our background as the building block to our layout. We are going to make the background super special with a blend of at least 2 of Danyale’s gorgeous papers. Danyale is so amazing at making fabulous papers that are a perfect building block to your layouts, and now we are going to make them our own with some blending.

I scrapped my kitty snuggling himself up with our towels in the laundry room. I used Danyale’s beautiful Baby It’s Cold Outside Kit. She has so many fabulous papers in this kit, and I chose two of them to blend together for my background. There are many ways that you can choose to blend your papers. You can play around with the blend mode and opacity in Photoshop. What I did is turn down the opacity a little bit, then I took the eraser with a blended brush at an opacity of 20% and erased around the edges to let my bottom paper show through a bit more on the edges. Take a look at the pretty kit I used.

And here is what I came up with.

So on to the rules…

Scrap a page with a blended background. Use any combination of Etc by Danyale kits found in her stores.

Remember, if you scrap with a new release the first week within its release, you will get an extra entry point. For example, Danyale has a new kit that releases on the 1st, you purchase that kit and scrap a layout with it posting it by the 8th and now you get two entries instead of one.

Upload your layout and post it to the Etc by Danyale Gallery at the Lilypad for us to gush over and then link it back here by midnight EST on Sunday, January 31, 2016.

One lucky winner will be chosen at random to receive a $10 coupon to Danyale’s store.

If you are unsure how to do a blended background, we have some instructions HERE.

So get to work, I can’t wait to see what you create!

Congrats to last month’s winner barbaraj!

  1. Wow! Paper blending – this is something I just love!
Thank you so much for the great challenge!
    Here’s my LO.
The photo was taken with the help of our ooooold film camera – there was only one shot left, we were eager to develop the film and print the photos but we didn’t want to waste this last shot ))) I don’t remember whose idea this actually was, my brother’s or mine – but I like the way it turned out. ))

  2. I tried. I blend papers all the time, but have a hard time using the brushes to all effects to just parts of the page, you know?

Anyway, all three papers are blends of more than one and the biggest green one I did play with brushes and did some erasing to make it more marbled, hop that makes sense.

Thanks for the gorgeous kits and the opportunity to win:)

    1. I am so sorry about the trip post, I am embarrassed….eek. I thought it wasn’t working because of the type of link I chose to include the picture. Oops.

      1. No worries. We can delete one or two if you want. Because the comments are moderated due to spam, it sometimes takes a little bit for posts to show up.

  3. Thanks a lot for the challenge. It is not a big blend, but it is a blend in the middle of the paper, and I loved using the others together to make ellies/.

  4. My page – I just love to blend papers – and other Things 🙂

  5. Thanks for a great challenge. The way I blend is I get two papers that have blending on them. I put one on top of the other and use the magic eraser to delete one of the colors in the top paper, letting part of the bottom paper show through. In this one, I used a paper from SHABBY COUTURE and JAMES PATRICK,

  6. Here’s mine 🙂
